Skills for All is making significant changes to South Australia’s vocational education and training system and TAFE SA, as the State’s largest training provider, is changing too.
Under new legislation which comes into effect on 1 November 2012 (the TAFE SA Act 2012), TAFE SA will be a Statutory Corporation, meaning TAFE SA will be separated from the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST).
The modernised governance arrangements will enable TAFE SA to operate in the more commercial and competitive environment that Skills for All will bring while being further supported to meet industry training and community services needs and contribute to the social and economic development of regional communities.
Changes to TAFE SA Act
Under the TAFE SA Act 2012, an independent Board of Directors will govern TAFE SA on behalf of the State Government and regularly report to the Employment, Higher Education and Skills Minister on performance.
The TAFE SA Board of Directors have been selected by the Minister as they provide the expertise, abilities and experience required for the effective performance of TAFE SA.
The new TAFE SA Board of Directors
The new TAFE SA Board of Directors will be made up of:
- Mr Rob Chapman. Mr Chapman most recently the CEO of George Bank and has extensive experience as Chairman of several high profile Boards.
- Ms Joanne Denley. Ms Denley is currently the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management at Bridgestone Australia.
- Ms Miriam Silva. Ms Silva recently was General Manager of Commercial Operations at Elders and is currently a member of the Training and Skills Commission.
- Ms Noelene Buddle. Ms Buddle is a private consultant and sits on a number of Boards including WorkCover Corporation and the South Australian Museum.
- Mr John Branson. Mr Branson is currently the Chairman of Directors at Stuart Petroleum and is a Director of AED Oil.
- Mr Adrian Gerard Marron. Mr Marron is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Canberra Institute of Technology and has over 15 years’ experience in the Tertiary Education sector.
- Ms Annette Hurley. Ms Hurley was most recently a Senator for South Australia and former Chair of the Senate Economics Committee.
- Mr Peter Vaughan who will be the inaugural Chairperson. Mr Vaughan has extensive experience across a broad range of occupations most recently as Chief Executive Officer of Business SA.
Under the new arrangements TAFE SA will have the flexibility to identify business strengths, more accountability to meet performance targets, and the ability to grow revenue in a contestable training market.
