Ripe is the work of five graphic design graduates, Alyssa Wong,
Cristina Palmese, and
Five graduating graphic design students will be showing their work in an exhibition entitled Ripe, this Friday, 23 March.
The exhibition is how the five students have chosen to celebrate the end of their four years of part-time study in the Diploma of Advertising and Graphic Design.
Works on display include advertising posters, logos and stationery, wine label design, branding and illustration, editorial page layouts for magazines, brochures, and photography.
The Ripe theme seemed an appropriate name for the exhibition for a few reasons. Firstly, when the course started, this class was labeled as the Red group.
"As we are the red group, we thought of using a red theme," said Cristina Palmese, one of the five students.
"Also the connecting factor is Ripe can also equal mature and we are all mature adult students, as opposed to fresh out of high school," she said.
As lecturer Helen Alexandrou puts it, "From seeds they have grown and developed with the help of the TAFE SA lecturing staff to becoming graphic designers who are ripe and ready to be employed in the Industry".
At least, they would be ready to join the industry, if they weren't working in it already.
"All the students have been working full time throughout their studies in related industries and have achieved a diploma by attending classes two nights a week over a period of four years," said Alexandrou.
The exhibition represents the differing styles of each artist but is tied together by the mature approach of the artists to their craft.
The five graduating students were once part of a larger group of nearly 30. Cristina Palmese says this group has made it to the end of the course because of their passion and commitment to design.
"We are proud of ourselves and this exhibition is to celebrate our four years of intense study and commitment, and a chance to show the public what we have learnt," she said.
Ripe is open for one night only.
