Artisan Cheese Making Academy Australia
Staff Profile: Solita Portella
Artisan Cheese Academy Project Officer
Originally from South Australia, Solita started with Kraft Foods in the mid-80s at their Millel factory in the South East, which was then a Cheddar operation. While at Millel, she commenced studying at Gilbert Chandler for an Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Dairy Technology).
She moved to the Eight Mile Creek plant in Mount Gambier, where she worked with Continental Cheeses, then to Strathmerton in country Victoria working at the greenfield site manufacturing Processed Cheese.
After 10 years in factories she moved to CHR Hansen as a sales rep selling Dairy Cultures and Enzymes to dairy product manufacturers around Australia, before moving back into production at Parmalat Rowville, firstly as a production planner, before moving to Customer Inventory Management and then a Business Analyst role in the Sales department.
She then went back to sales at APS Food & Nutrition, primarily working with dairy customers, then onto Danisco as a Sales Manager for the Southern region, again specialising in dairy, particularly Cheese.
Her next big move was back to South Australia where she worked at Vok Beverages as a Sales Analyst. But her desire to get back into the dairy industry has brought her to the Artisan Cheese Making Academy of Australia, with no plans to move again.
