Dairy Industry and Food Safety Consultant and Auditor

Steve Rice was CEO of the Dairy Authority SA until he retired in February 2012 and has been a member of the DIAA and predecessor organisations for 40 years. Steve holds an Hons BSc and PG Diploma in Food Technology and has worked with the dairy industry for 40 years in the SA Department of Agriculture and Dairy Authority of SA.

Steve has extensive dairy industry knowledge having worked in dairy regulation at state and national level, state and Commonwealth dairy marketing arrangements and has wide auditing experience in all industry sectors. Steve is currently a part time private consultant. Steve is a Level 4 High Risk Auditor (Heat Treatment).

Steve has extensive dairy product judging experience in South Australia with the SA Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society, the DIAA (SA Division) and SA’s Cheesefest. Steve is currently the Chief Judge at the Adelaide and Melbourne Shows and in 2012 judged at the Brisbane Show and for the DIAA nationally. Steve is a Judge for the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

For his outstanding service to the Australian dairy industry, Steve received the 2010 DIAA John Bryant Gold Medal. Steve has also been awarded the 2012 Royal Adelaide Show Brenton Higgins Memorial Award for Exceptional Service to the Dairy Industry.
