Nursing students on-job in local medical practice

Nov 05, 2014

GPPlacement_WEBTAFE SA Enrolled Nursing students have recently completed on-job placement in local medical practices across regional South Australia.

The students are part of a new project between TAFE SA and Country North SA Medicare Local to develop, implement and evaluate a rural clinical placement program in local medical practices for Enrolled Nurses. The project has been funded by ClinEDSA and Health Workforce Australia.

TAFE SA Educational Manager Alison Sanders said the project would contribute to assisting the future workforce of Enrolled Nursing within regional South Australia.

“Enrolled Nurses are second level nurses who provide nursing care and are a skilled and integral part of the nursing team,” said Ms Sanders.

“This project gives local medical practices the opportunity to experience the benefits of having an Enrolled Nurse within their organisation, while providing vital on-job training to our students.”

The students enjoyed work placement at the following GP practices:

  • Lincoln Medical Centre
  • Boston Bay Family Health Practice
  • Norrie Avenue Surgery, Whyalla
  • Doctors on Playford & Doctors at Westland, Whyalla
  • Medgate Medical Centre, Whyalla
  • Roxby Downs Family Practice

Each student was supported by a Registered or Enrolled Nurse within the practice.
