TAFE SA students celebrate graduation

Oct 03, 2014

TAFE SA Community Services and Aged Care GraduatesEighteen graduates have celebrated the completion of their studies in Certificate III in Community Services and Certificate III in Aged Care at TAFE SA Port Augusta Campus.

The course was developed in response to the continual growth in demand for community services and aged care in the Port Augusta community. It is an initiative of the Government of South Australia as part of the Skills for Jobs in Regions program, administered by the Regional Development Australia Far North.

Graduate Kirralee Buckley gained employment at a local aged care facility, while completing the course.

“I was looking for a career change and jumped at the opportunity to enrol in the course at TAFE SA and studying in this area lead to a job at Ramsay Village,” said Ms Buckley.

“I wanted to work in aged care so I could provide care to older people in our community; it satisfies me to see my clients happy.”

Ms Buckley said her lecturer supported her throughout the course and kept her on track when barriers in her personal life made studying a challenge.

“My lecturer was my inspiration and I would not have completed the course without her.”

Ms Buckley now has her sights set on the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing) at TAFE SA in 2015. She encourages others considering a career in Aged Care or Community Services to enrol at TAFE SA.

“If you have your heart and mind set on achieving, you won’t let anything get in your way of completing your studies.”

Following the success of this program, TAFE SA along with the Regional Development Board Far North plan to offer it again in 2015. Interested participants are invited to contact TAFE SA Port Augusta Campus on 8648 9922 to register their interest.
