New course inducts staff into Dairy industry

Aug 07, 2014

DairyLecturersWEBA new course at TAFE SA Mount Gambier Campus is equipping employees of the local Dairy industry with vital skills.

The Certificate II Program in Dairy Induction, recently developed in response to community demand, provides participants with a thorough induction to the industry including safety procedures, machinery operation and feeding livestock.

The course, which runs one day per week for nine weeks, includes units from the nationally accredited Certificate II in Agriculture, is available fee-free* to eligible participants through the State Government’s Skills for All initiative.

TAFE SA lecturer Annalee Wallace said that the course was a win-win for local industry.

“This course is designed to provide a complete induction to working in the Dairy industry,” said Annalee.

“Employers are no longer having to rely on finding the time themselves to provide this vital training in the workplace- plus it is currently free!”

“We have recently completed the first course with 12 participants and their employers are pleased with the skills and knowledge they have gained.”

One of the participants in the first Dairy Induction Course was a new employee of Manga Dairy. Sharon Lee, who owns Manga Dairy along with her partner Neville Joppich said that she encouraged other local employees to take up this new training opportunity.

“The growth of our employee’s knowledge and new-found confidence cannot be underestimated,” said Sharon.

“TAFE SA has provided formal training which backs-up the teaching we had provided, from a WHS perspective alone, it provides protection for us as a business, as well as our employee.”

“Our employee’s skills have grown and she has a greater understanding of the industry, and as employers, we appreciate the new information and ideas she brings back to our business.”

*This course is fee-free to eligible participants, no additional fees for incidental materials apply.
