Hospitality lecturer recognised nationally

Mar 26, 2013

TAFE SA Advanced Skills Lecturer Mondi Karoussis was recognised as a “legend” of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry at the recent Tourism Training Australia National Skills Conference in Sydney. The prestigious award recognises the outstanding leadership role of Mr Karoussis and TAFE SA at a national level.

TAFE SA Regional Hospitality, Cookery, Sport and Recreation, Program Manager Peter Christie said that TAFE SA is “justifiably proud” of Mondi’s success. “Mondi is well known as TAFE SA’s ‘five star boy’ for his 19 years of training leadership and his dedication to meeting the needs of industry” said Mr Christie.

Mr Karoussis divides his time between his home in Adelaide and his students at TAFE SA’s Whyalla Campus, teaching courses in Hospitality Operations and Management from Certificate II through to Advanced Diploma.

“I’m honoured to have received this award and recognition at such a prestigious event. The award reflects not only the high standards I have set for myself, but the quality and calibre of our students. Up to 90 per cent of our students have gained employment, not only in Whyalla, but nationally in key tourism markets such as Queensland”, said Mr Karoussis.”

“Tourism and Hospitality is a great industry to be involved in, with excellent and varied career pathways”, said Mr Karoussis. “With the right attitude and quality training, the opportunities in this industry are unlimited. I like to say you need to be the best to be noticed; and being noticed is the best.”
