Apprentice James Hovart was named Most Improved 2nd Year Electrical Apprentice of the Year at the TAFE SA Regional’s Manufacturing, Engineering and Transport Industry Night held last week at the Riverland Trade Training Centre.

Mr Hovart said he felt thrilled and proud to have been the recipient of such an award.

“The electrical trade is a good trade to get into, and incorporates a variety of different and interesting tasks on a daily basis.  The new Trade Training Centre facility is excellent and provides all new and up to date equipment for training purposes,” Mr Hovart said.

“Localised  training  gives employers more incentive to hire apprentices as there is less down time with them having to travel away from work. “

Nine TAFE SA students were awarded on the evening, including:

2011 Neville McPherson Award – Outstanding Trade Training Student of the Year Bradley McKay and Jake Nourse

2011 Electrical Trade Training Student of the Year Alex Spriggs

2011 Most Improved 1st Year Electrical Apprentice of the Year Joel Watson

2011 Most Improved 2nd Year Electrical Apprentice of the Year James Horvat

2011 Outstanding Pre-Vocational of the Year Mitchell Crosbie

Aaron Lambert Memorial Award for the Most Outstanding TAFE SA Engineering/ Automotive Apprentice of the Year Chad Dunling (2011), Justin Andriske (2010) and  Samuel Peck (2009)

More than 70 people attended the Industry Night and viewed the new training facilities.

TAFE SA Educational Manager Tim Jones said “We were encouraged by the attendance at the Industry Night and the interest shown in the new training opportunities being offered at the Trade Training Centre.”

“Visitors showed a lot of interest and asked lots of questions, overall they seemed very impressed with what they saw,” Mr Jones said.

The new range of training courses and opportunities for local employers and employees to upskill, were showcased on the night with particular interest in the new electro technology and renewable energy facility.

The Centre offers training in Electrical, Refrigeration and Renewable Energy, Fitting and Machining, Fabrication and Automotive also with a range of short courses.
