Students studying Hair and Beauty recently teamed up with a group of Visual Art & Design students, in a photoshoot at Tea Tree Gully Campus that brought together their individual skills in a professional setting.
The Hairdressing students prepared hair and make up on models as a contribution towards their Work as a Session Stylist portfolios while the Visual arts students studying Photography 2: Studio Practice were using the opportunity to develop work for assessment.
The project encouraged the students to work with models to generate a small body of work for a portraiture portfolio.
The collaboration across disciplines has encouraged dialogue across campuses and qualifications – establishing networks and providing great experience for each group along the way.
Jessie Mullens, Bachelor of Visual Art & Design student, said "Collaborating with the hair and beauty students was a great opportunity for my peers and me.
"The process trained everyone to work in a comfortable environment with unfamiliar models and clients and to produce quality and consistent results in a tight deadline.
"The collaboration was a great networking opportunity for me as in my personal work I was looking for a wardrobe and hair stylist, and have since further worked and networked with one of the students for more substantial work in our books and possibly future clientele work."
There have since seen repeat collaborations undertaken outside of the set task, which is great evidence of the value of this relationship.
