TAFE SA delivers an engaging counselling qualification in which graduates gain skills and knowledge in effective counselling and high level communication with clients in the community services industry.
Industry-expert lecturers share their theoretical knowledge and real-world experience to prepare graduates for their career in counselling.
On successful completion of the course, students are eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Human Services through the University of Southern Queensland.
This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge to
be able to deliver a specialist service within the community services
sector. They will work with a variety of people faced with debt and
other financial issues. This qualification will provide them with;
knowledge, paralegal skills and competencies focusing on credit and debt
issues affecting clients and their rights and obligations,
- a solid understanding of social and systemic issues that impact on clients of financial counselling.
These skills may be applied in casework, community development and social justice contexts.
qualification is NOT related to the work performed by financial
planners or financial advisers whose role is to provide clients with
strategies to address their investment options
qualification does NOT refer to therapeutic counselling. Psychological
issues such as gambling, abuses and mental or physical health problems
require referral to a professionally qualified practitioner. However, a
recognition of, and an ability to work within a counselling framework
on personal and financial issues is highly relevant to financial
