TAFE SA offers different course types, each with different entry requirements. Below is a list of the main course types with information on who is eligible to apply for them.
Award courses
A TAFE SA award course comprises a structured sequence of study units or subjects, which, when successfully completed, entitle the student to a qualification or award.
Award courses are open to permanent residents of Australia or Australian citizens. In addition, entry requirements vary according to the level of qualification obtained.

Short courses
A short course is any single unit of study offered by TAFE SA that can be taken without the need to enrol in an award course.
Most short courses are open to anyone but there may be limited spots available. Application and enrolment for short courses involves submitting an application form and paying the relevant fee to ensure your place in a course.
All short courses require application be made directly to the campus offering the course.
TAFE (VET) in schools
Vocational education and training (VET) in schools is nationally recognised training that is available to senior students as part of their normal school curriculum.
To be eligible you must be a student at a South Australian secondary high school that offers VET courses.

Apprenticeships and traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships are training programs designed to provide employment while giving students on-the-job training. Apprenticeships are focused on a particular trade, while traineeships focus on employment in non-trade industries.
Apprenticeships and traineeships are available to individuals from the age of 15. School students, school leavers and job seekers are eligible to apply. There are no general prerequisites but particular jobs may look for skills, experience or aptitude in certain areas.
